HAND KNOTTED IRANIAN PRAYING RUG- This is an original (13 1/2 feet by 30 inches) Iranian Praying rug of exceptional quality. It is not a modern reproduction, please see photos which highlight the hand tied knots. This 75 to 100 year old rug would have taken 3 years to complete. The weaver would have rolled the finished portions of the carpet onto her lap as the work progressed. There are five sections woven into the carpet. The two on the ends are morning squared and relate to male members of the family that the carpet was made for. The middle section relates to female members of the family. The carpet would have been knelt on and for religious reasons it would have never been stepped on. This carpet was purchase from an antique dealer in California in 1961 and this is the first time that it has been offered for sale since. As you can see it is in exceptional condition.
