Biography: Lionel Barf was an eccentric artist and author who lived in Victoria, British Columbia arriving there from the UK in 1893, and was well known for his adventurous nature which saw him involved in the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. He met his end in China where he was acting as an army artist sending back pictures of the allied troops involved in the Chinese/Japanese wars, dying of typhoid fever.
